Musselburgh Races

The east coast of Scotland is a place many would consider one of the most alluring in the United Kingdom. It has beauty, heritage and wonderful people. Musselburgh Races are a major attraction for all who come to the area, not to forget those who seek out the finest equestrian sporting in the country.

Musselburgh Races, inside rail This beautiful and charming racecourse has been going since the early 1800s, and is endowed with a sense of old world character. All who come to enjoy one of the fixtures will find it a place of excitement, charm, great service, exceptional facilities and all the refinements which suggest it as venue fit for ‘The Sport of Kings’.

Musselburgh Races can be enjoyed throughout the year. The calendar is filled with both jump and flat fixtures, totaling in at 25.

Many of the meetings are themed or allow for special entertainments, so if you’d like an excuse to buy that wild hat there’s certainly going to be a meeting to justify it. The Champers & Hampers Package is just one those which can be found on select days of Musselburgh Races.

As you might expect from a package which suggests itself as a summertime activity, it is available during summer fixtures only, and then only for Ladies Day and Edinburgh Cup day; the latter being one of the country’s most coveted and prestigious events. The Champers & Hampers Package requires a booking for a group of 4 and includes all you need to enjoy a lovely day of quality, summer racing. Admission badges and programmes are part of the package, and you’ll get your own picnic table for the day. The tables are to be found on the lovely and exclusive Pommery Champagne Lawn, and it’s Pommery Champagne that you’ll find in your hamper, as well as delicious picnic lunch to complete a raceday of pleasure.

Another popular package, although one which is available for all meetings, is the Epperston Restaurant Package. The package is available for both the Epperston and Lothian Suite restaurants, each supplying panoramic views of the racecourse. You’ll have a base for the duration of the meeting and, also included in the package price, is the cost of the admission badge, fixture programme, form guide and a three-course meal. It probably goes without saying that the restaurants all provide tote betting facilities and CCTV.

Those who want to enjoy a day of turf action close to the rails, might do better to venture to the Old Weighing Room Bistro when they are hungry. As the name suggests, it is a place supplying beautifully prepared, nourishing favourites, all created by those who know how best to get the flavours from locally sourced ingredients. Tables are limited, so it’s best to book if you hope to enjoy a lovely meal in the delightful airy bistro.

While Musselburgh Races date back to the early 19th century and there is no small amount of historic charm about the racecourse, or the area in which it is found, many of the buildings and interior design are modern; although they have been created in a way which is elegant and stylish and complements the colourful heritage appeal.
Musselburgh Races, winner

Those seeking the best in corporate hospitality will find the modern complex a wonderful place to entertain clients or colleagues. There are two packages available to corporate clients in the Queen’s Stand.

Both packages include a private hospitality suite, which has spectacular views of the winning post, and all the necessary elements to lay a wager and watch the events in close-up TV detail. But it’s the Pommery Champagne and silver service 3-course meal which will round off the feeling of luxury and exclusivity supplied by a private hospitality suite. For those who take the Premium Package, there are options for advertising and sponsorship, including naming rights to a race, banner displays, the chance to judge the best outfit and present winnings.

Musselburgh Races, photo finish The Queen’s Stand also features on non-racedays as a favoured conference and meeting venue. Musselburgh Races is not only about year-round action, it is also one of the east of Scotland’s most celebrated conference, banqueting and events centres. There are many suites and venues which are easily adaptable to the needs and numbers of occasions which require space for 10 to 100 people. There is also the chance to enjoy the Old Weighing Room Bistro for a full sit-down meal. The functions and events team of this Lothian racecourse are among the people who have helped earn it many awards for aspects as various as professional organization and the catering.

For larger events, there is always the option to have it in a marquee. The course has a dedicated marquee area, which boasts great views of the countryside and can be set-up for many kinds of events, although always in a way which is elegant and appealing.

Marquees are particularly popular for larger wedding receptions. While the grounds are not licensed to hold civil ceremonies, both humanist and religious ceremonies are popular, and the events team will make sure everything that makes a wedding special is organized to the last detail.

No area of Scotland at its most beautiful, would be complete without the chance to play a round of two of golf. Not far from the racecourse is the oldest playing course in the world, the 9 Hole Old Course, and the town itself has 2 full 18-hole courses. Just a bit further afield, you’ll find some of the world’s best championship courses.
